Compared to Red Brass, Yellow Brass is lighter and has clearer colour. In order to distinguish Red Brass and Yellow Brass, it needs a rasp or file to sand an unsightly spot on the copper piece. If the stain appears to be light yellow color then it indicates Yellow Brass, and if the colour is red, it can be identified as Red Brass

According to ISRI Specification 2020, Yellow Brass must consist of mixed yellow brass solids such as:

• Brass castings
• Rolled brass
• Rod brass
• Tubing and miscellaneous yellow brasses: plated brass

It must be free of:

• Manganese-bronze
• Aluminum bronze
• Unsweated radiators or radiator parts
• Iron
• Excessively dirt and corroded materials
• Any type of munitions, including but not limited to, bullet casings

Yellow brass is applied for applications that need low friction such as the production of fittings and connectors, supplies, equipment parts, and munition components. It is also used for decorative and musical instrument applications.
